This section of the site showcases many of Finland’s plants, divided into two groups: a larger group of flowering plants, and a smaller group of trees and shrubs. You can browse through the featured plants in various ways: alphabetically, by family, or by searching freely for words such as plant characteristics.
Our pride is the NatureGate’s unique identification tool for flowering plants. This system is based on a simple idea, where users enter their observations of the characteristics of an unidentified plant.
But finding the name of an unknown plant is not the only use for this tool. You can also use it, for instance, if you want to find out what plants are typical of a given habitat at a certain time. “I wonder what flowering plants we might find on the seashore in May?”
