Geranium Family, Geraniaceae

Members of the Geranium family are familiar to Finns in the wild, but one genus, Pelargonium, is very common as a pot plant in Finnish homes. (70 feral Pelargonium species have been recognized). Globally the Geranium family is comprised of just 7 genera, which are comprised of at least 600 species: in Finland it is represented by 2 genera and 15 species. The largest genus around the world and in Finland too is Geranium with over 400 species worldwide and 14 in Finland, and the most beautiful plant is…in the eye of the beholder.
