Rose Family, Rosaceae
The rose family has at least 130 genera worldwide and over 2,000 species altogether. The Finnish figures are 20 and 80 respectively. The family includes both herb-stemmed and wooden-stemmed species including what many people regard as the most beautiful flowers of all, large-flowered rose-bushes. The family also includes much-cultivated species such as apples (Malus), raspberries (Rubus) and strawberries (Fragaria). In a global context the family’s largest genus is Prunus (over 200 species), which includes cherry and plum trees. For many Finns, the most (financially) important species is cloudberry.
