Cypress Family, Cupressaceae

The only feral representative of the Cypress family that grows wild in Finland is common juniper, but in a global context the family is comprised of around 150 species from 20 genera. Genus Juniperus is the largest in the family with around 70 species. At least 2 representatives of genus Thuja, which is comprised of only 5 species worldwide, can be found quite commonly in culturally-influenced areas in southern Finland, mostly as garden ornamentals.
The Cypress family belongs to the order Cupressales, whose representatives in Finland include yew plants (family Taxaceae).
