Soapberry Family, Sapindaceae
The Soapberry family is quite large in a global context with 124 genera and around 1,500 species, including genus Acer, which is the only one represented in the wild in Finland. When this web site was in its initial stages, Norway maple belonged to the Maple family and was the sole representative in Finland, but research has shed new light and species, genera and families have changed name and place within this web site, and their content has also changed. Horse chestnut has also been transferred to become part of the Soapberry family. Globally there are 160 maple species and 23 horse chestnuts.
