Species from Amaranth Family, Amaranthaceae: 16
Amaranth Family, Amaranthaceae
The Amaranth family is comprised of at least 160 genera and almost 2,000 species worldwide. Its numbers received a boost when it joined ranks with the Goosefoot family (Chenopodiaceae), which was rather notable in Finland for its 10 genera and around 35 species. These figures rose to 11 and 40 respectively when genus Amaranthus and its 5 species were included, and they include beets (Beta vulgaris) such as sugar beet and spinach (Spinacia oleracea).
