Species from Asparagus Family, Asparagaceae: 10

Asparagus Family, Asparagaceae

At the turn of the decade the Asparagus family was represented in Finland by a single genus and species (asparagus, Asparagus officinalis), but new research changed the family fundamentally. After the changes had been implemented the family was represented globally by 143 genera and over 3,500 species. The change had quite an effect in Finland as lily of the valley, angular Solomon’s seal, Solomon’s seal and their close relative May lily were all added to the family. To Finns it almost feels as if their folk dance had been re-classified as a Viennese waltz. The same change also saw hyacinth plants join the family. All of the Asparagus family members are at least monocotyledonous, which indicates that they are related.
