Species from Pink Family, Caryophyllaceae: 52
Pink Family, Caryophyllaceae
The cosmopolitan Pink family includes around 90 genera from around the world comprised of around 2,500 species. In Finland there are 19 genera and at least 70 species, all of which are herb-stemmed flowering plants. The most familiar and beautiful of these are campions, pinks and catchflies. The way that the Pink family is spread across the world is well demonstrated by family member Antarctic pearlwort (Colobanthus quitensis), which grows in the Antarctic where it comprises half of the feral flowering plants that grow there (the other being Antarctic hair grass (Deschampsia antarctica), whose genus is represented in Finland too, the best-known member probably being tufted hair-grass (D. cespitosa)).
