Pea Family, Fabaceae
The Pea family, Fabaceae (also known as Legume family, Leguminosae) is the third largest in the plant kingdom with around 1,000 genera and 25,000 species (from small grass-stalked plants to massive trees). Only the Daisy and Orchid families are bigger. Many pea plants are economically very important crops for the edible oil and food they produce, and they are also grown as fodder crops. On the other hand the family also contains many poisonous plants, including all the genera Vicia and Lathyrus plants that grow in Finland. The family also includes a lot of bred and unbred ornamental trees and bushes.
