Saxifrage Family, Saxifragaceae

The Saxifrage family is comprised of 43 genera and around 650 species worldwide, most of which thrive in rocky terrain. In Finland there are 2 genera comprised of 15 species. In addition to these there are several species that have escaped from cultivation and survive and spread vegetatively in the wild. The largest genus in both Finland and the world is Saxifraga, which is home to half of all the species that grow in Finland and all of those that grow in the north.
