Species from Buttercup Family, Ranunculaceae: 1

Buttercup Family, Ranunculaceae

The Buttercup family is comprised of around 60 genera around the world which contain over 2,000 species. The figures in Finland are 13 and 55 respectively. Apart from the wooden-stemmed climber Siberian clematis the family’s species are comprised of herb-stemmed flowering plants, most of which are poisonous. The most species-rich genus in Finland is Ranunculus, the best-known and most beautiful in most people’s opinion are Anemone, Hepatica and Pulsatilla, and the largest-flowered representative of the family is eastern pasque flower (Pulsatilla patens). Three Finnish provinces use species from the Buttercup family as their official provincial flowers, and the family also includes many garden species which have escaped into the wild.
