Daphne Family, Thymelaeaceae
The Daphne family is represented in Finland by one species and therefore one genus. In a global context the figures are a bit healthier, with 52 genera comprised of almost 800 species, most of which grow in the southern hemisphere in Africa and Australia. They are mainly trees, bushes and dwarf shrubs, but there are also some herb-stemmed species. Genus Gnidia has the most species (150), and the second-largest is genus Daphne with 90. (The Latin type genus Thymelaea contains around 30 species, many of them native to the Canary Islands).
